Yoshiharu Tsuge: He Rolled Me Up Like a Grilled Squid
A manga icon’s most perplexing, transgressive, and astounding work of horror and surrealism
By the mid-1970s, Tsuge Yoshiharu was a man changed by circumstance — something his work from 1975 to 1981 boldly reveals.
After settling into married life with fellow artist Fujiwara Maki (author of Eisner-winning My Picture Diary), Tsuge would return to thenarrative formulas that he knew best: tall tales exchanged between fellow travelers, macabre parables tinged with magical realism, and the enduring comedy of the domesticeveryday in a Japan rebuilding itself in the decades following the Second World War.
And yet the confusion and mental illness simmering beneath the surface of his more surreal works come to a rolling boil, reaching an unsettling and horrific crescendo in a series of nightmarish delusions.
He Rolled Me Up Like A Grilled Squid captures a mid career author taking stock of his anxieties and suspicions while connecting the dots between his seemingly monotonous present and his complicated past.
Confrontations between both periods in his life are explored through the lens of his deteriorating mental state, expressed directly through experiments with different visual styles collected in this volume.
Translated by prolific art and comics historian Ryan Holmberg, He Rolled Me Up Like A Grilled Squid is a veteran storyteller’s most compelling observations about people at their most human.

Marcelo D’Salete: Tiodora’s Letters – An Enslaved Woman’s Fight for Family and Freedom
In the mid-19th century, millions of Africans were enslaved and brought to Brazil.
Among them was the real-life Teodora who, separated from her husband and her son, worked in the home of a priest in São Paulo.
Wishing to reconstruct the family ties lost during the journey from Africa to Brazil and to achieve emancipation for herself and her family, she gave Claro, a Black man who could read and write, money to help her write letters: some addressed to her husband and her son, whereabouts unknown, in the hopes that the letters would find them and that they could achieve this quest together; and some addressed to enslavers, intended to either help locate her family or to persuade them to let her buy her freedom.
Inspired by this correspondence, Tiodora’s Letters is a rigorously researched historical work, a compelling narrative based on her letters, and masterfully drawn by D’Salete, who graphically recreates her struggle.
In the 1860s, Benê, a fictional Black young man who likes Tiodora because she was kind to him, takes it upon himself to seek Tiô’s family and deliver the letters.
He embarks on a dangerous and world-building journey into the interior of Brazil and to the coffee plantations where they might be.
There are many wordless passages of heartbreaking horror, character beats, breathtaking drawings of nature, and much more.
In Tiodora’s Letters, D’Salete reconstructs a forgotten part of Brazil’s dark history of slavery and pays tribute to the strength of a woman who fought for her rights single-handedly.
Includes educational and contextual material.

Andrea Chalupa & Brahm Revel: Mrs. Orwell
Eileen Blair, wife and partner of George Orwell, is brought out of her husband’s shadow in this riveting graphic novel, which follows the couples’ tireless campaign to expose difficult political truths through art.
The Roaring Twenties are over, fascism is on the rise across Europe, and the dream of a workers’ paradise is all but dead.
But in the midst of these turbulent times, a love story unfolds — one that will forever reshape our political language and how we view the future.
Mrs. Orwell follows poet Eileen Blair and her husband, George Orwell, as they forge the professional and romantic partnership that will eventually bring us Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.
From a honeymoon fighting in the Spanish Civil War to narrow escapes from Stalin’s agents and the London Blitz, the Blairs’ campaign against fascism brings them face-to-face with some of the greatest threats of the 1930s.
But while George struggles to make his voice heard despite political censorship, Eileen must fight to preserve her own voice within a marriage that threatens to consume her.
This sweeping account of Eileen Blair’s brief but dazzling life casts a light on a long-overlooked figure and her persistent defense of that most beloved, most vulnerable principle: the power of the pen.

The semi-periodical look into the expansive art practice of an acclaimed cartoonist
Palookaville 25 houses three benchmark projects from the artistic practice of cartoonist and New Yorker cover artist Seth (Clyde Fans).
His highly-acclaimed memoir “Nothing Lasts” returns.
A wave farewell to his youth and a love letter to Toronto in the 1980s, this installment of his memoir caps off his teenage years and the budding romance at the Cove Inn, and sees Seth setting off for the big city where he moves to attend art school.
Showcasing Seth’s fine-art practice, Palookaville 25 also includes a photo essay about the creation of “Living Room Suite,” his bronze sculpture installation in Guelph.
Through text and photographs, Seth documents early pieces in the same series, followed by maquettes of the sculpture, photos showing the fabrication process, and then, finally, a series of photos showing the completed installation.
Lastly, the life and death of post-humorously renowned Dominion painter Owen Moore is told through comics in ten episodes.
Originally serialized in The Walrus, this is the first time the story has been collected.
Pages from the original sketchbook version and the final art are presented in pairs, revealing Seth’s process to readers.
A rarity in the world of publishing, Seth’s Palookaville series has become an ongoing monograph of sorts, a deep look into an idiosyncratic mind, and a survey of a singular artist’s multifaceted output.

Andy Diggle & Leandro Fernandez: Batman – Gotham by Gaslight: A League for Justice
The Gotham by Gaslight saga continues with writer Andy Diggle and artist Leandro Fernández introducing the Gilded Age’s answer to the Justice League!
In 2024, DC’s iconic Elseworlds was ushered into a new era with the release of Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, a sequel to the classic original Gotham by Gaslight by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola.
The Kryptonian Age continued the iconic saga of the Batman of the Victorian era and expanded that world by introducing Gilded Age-era versions of DC’s most iconic heroes.
Now, writer Andy Diggle and artist Leandro Fernández return to tell the second part of this epic tale in Gotham by Gaslight: A League for Justice!

Collects The Witcher: The Bear and the Butterfly #1-4.
Barry Windsor-Smith: Marvel Creator Collection 1 – Back to the Savage Land
From the moment Marvel brought him to the U.S. in 1969, Windsor-Smith was a creative force to be reckoned with.
A passionate devotee of Jack Kirby, Windsor-Smith’s earliest drawing at Marvel reflected that influence, but he quickly developed his own unique, eye-opening style, combining intricately detailed realism with the dreamlike lushness of art nouveau and late-1960s psychedelia.
This volume focuses on the earliest of his work, including memorable storylines on The Avengers, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and individual stories for Chamber of Darkness, Tower of Shadows, and Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. All new benchmarks of comics art, culminating in what may be the highlight of this period: Windsor-Smith’s collaboration with writer Gerry Conway on an epic tale of civil war in Ka-Zar’s Savage Land.
Future volumes will trace Windsor-Smith’s career through such milestones as Machine Man and Weapon X.
Hugo Pratt: Corto Maltese – Fable of Venice and Other Adventures
Artist Hugo Pratt’s most famous creation, the indefatigable sailor Corto Maltese, sails back to American readers after a far too-long absence in Corto Maltese: Fable of Venice and Other Adventures.
Corto, a modern Ulysses whose wanderings in the early decades of the 20th century take him to the most fascinating places on Earth, is a hard-luck, hard-driving iconoclastic anti-hero who values freedom and independence more than wealth and status.
In “Fable of Venice,” a riddle from a deceased friend plunges Corto into a phantasmagorical mystery thriller that zigzags between the solidity of dreams and the fluidity of reality.
A frantic chase in 1921 Venice ensues, up twisting stairs and down tangled alleys, as Corto vies against Freemasons, occultists, budding fascists, and his friend (suddenly back from the dead) in a mad scramble to secure a mystical emerald that will open the doors of forbidden magic and unravel time and space itself!
In addition, this collection of quintessential seafaring adventures also presents the Corto Maltese classics “The Secret of Tristan Bantam,” “So Much for Gentlemen of Fortune,” and “The Seagull’s Fault,” making this book an exciting introduction to Pratt’s work.
Alan Moore: The Complete 2000 AD By Alan Moore – Future Shocks & Other Stories
The first volume in a new series collecting the complete 2000 AD works of the legendary Alan Moore (Watchmen, V For Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen).
Alan Moore is a legendary comics writer credited with transforming the medium and how it was seen through his seminal works such as V For Vendetta, From Hell and, of course, Watchmen.
But, before any of that, he cut his teeth at 2000 AD, the “galaxy’s greatest comic”.
It was there that Moore honed his craft in preparation for the accolades that would follow.
This first volume in a new series collecting all of Alan Moore’s work for 2000 AD, brings together all of his Future Shocks as well as a host of other one-off stories.
Moore is a master of the short-format story and this collection doubles as the perfect guide for how to write comics to a page limit.
Includes the story ” A Holiday In Hell” which has never been reprinted in English since its first publication in 1980.
Moore’s stories are complemented by the works of a string of legendary artists including Dave Gibbons ( Watchmen), Ian Gibson ( The Ballad of Halo Jones), Eric Bradbury ( Rogue Trooper), Bryan Talbot ( Grandville), Steve Dillon ( Preacher), Brett Ewins ( Bad Company) and more.
Marcello Quintanilha: The Lights of Niterói
In 1950s Brazil, somewhere by the beach, not far from Rio, Hélcio, a young and promising soccer player, and his friend Noël, spot someone fishing with dynamite.
They decide to take a boat and steal some of the dead fish to make some money.
The boat trip turns into a perilous journey as the two thieves embark on an adventure that will challenge their friendship.
Inspired by the life of Marcello Quintanilha’s father, Hélcio Quintanilha, this graphic novel is both a suspenseful thriller and a breathtaking story about friendship.
In The Lights of Niterói, internationally acclaimed graphic novelist Marcello Quintanilha returns to the city where he was born and raised.
He dives into the waters of Guanabara Bay and crafts a plot based on real events that took place in the 1950s.
It’s an adventure full of suspense, involving fishermen, soccer, the Brazilian feminist and striptease artist Luz del Fuego, and the first naturist camp in Brazil.
Translated by the author with Bruna Dantas Lobato.

Massimo Rotundo: Ex Libris Erotics 1 (K)
KÄYTETTY.
At the end of the XIXth Century the bourgeoisie and the aristocracy practiced a secret pastime: erotic literature.
They ordered books from established artists like Beardsly, Klinger, Rops, Klimt or Von Bayros.
These books appeared in numbered editions which were strictly limited.
Each patron gave the artist detailed indications concerning his intimate tastes and personality.
Protected by their high social positions, the patrons had nothing to fear from the courts which considered every text or image dealing with sex to be a criminal offence.
It was the artist rather than the patron who had to account for public opinion and the law.
Often they had the finger of scorn pointed at them and were penalized for their transgressions.
Most of the time the contents of these valuable books implied the mentality of a certain class and a certain epoch, a time in which man was the centre of a world where his virility symbolized his superiority, while woman was condemned to play a passive role.
As far as I a concerned the EX LIBRIS EROTICS is a collection of short stories, evoking the themes and influence of liberty, where man and woman are but two sides of the same coin and where love and sex bring about the events of live.
