Neliosaisen teossarjan toinen osa.
1980-luvun alussa satavuotias Ateneum on kipeästi korjauksen tarpeessa.
Puiset paalut, joiden varassa rakennus seisoo, ovat antamassa periksi ja romahdusvaara on ilmeinen. Kun massiivinen peruskorjaus saadaan vuonna 1991 päätökseen ja pressut poistetaan, on rakennus muuttunut oudoksi ja tunnistamattomaksi.
Kaupunkilaiset lähestyvät sitä hämillään ja varoen kuin edesmennyttä omaista, joka on ilmestynyt oviaukkoon seisoskelemaan. Ja he lähestyvät rakennusta eri ilmansuunnista ja eri valaistusolosuhteissa ja he lähestyvät sitä eri lähestymistavoilla, mutta totuutta ei voi kieltää: Ateneum on peruuttamattomasti poissa. Sen tilalla on jotain mikä ei ole Ateneum, mutta jota silti kutsutaan Ateneumiksi.
Ja oikea, todellinen Ateneum jatkaa vajoamistaan rikkonaiseen maahan jossain syvällä sen alla.

Olavi Hurmerinnan Katsolan perhe -sarjakuvat ovat arvokas kulttuurinen dokumentti 1960-luvun Suomesta, ajasta jolloin televisio mullisti arjen rytmin ja perherakenteen.
Hurmerinnan kyky yhdistää satiiri ja lämminhenkisyys luo sarjakuvista samaistuttavia ja ajattomia kuvauksia inhimillisestä elämästä. Hänen sarjakuvansa ei ainoastaan viihdytä, vaan myös valottaa aikakautensa yhteiskunnallisia jännitteitä ja arjen ristiriitoja. Katsolan perhe jää elämään visuaalisena ja kerronnallisena perintönä, joka auttaa ymmärtämään mennyttä ja samalla peilaa nykyhetken kokemuksia.
Taidemaalari-kuvittaja Olavi Hurmerinta oli aikansa ahkerimpia lehtipiirtäjiä.
Tuotteliaimmillaan hän teki piirroksia 24 eri lehteen. Apu-lehden pilapiirroksissa hän käytti nimimerkkiä Eino-Olli. Hurmerinnan pilapiirroksista on koottu 1950-70-luvuilla kahdeksan kokoelmaa. Hänen sarjakuvansa ovat jääneet vähemmälle huomiolle.
Katsolan perhe -kokoelman on valikoinut, toimittanut ja toteuttanut Kari Puikkonen.

Kalmakumpu on sarjakuva lemmikkieläinten hautausmaasta ja sen hoitajasta.
Suurin osa hahmoista perustuu lasten tekemiin ehdotuksiin. Lapset ovat voineet ilmoittaa mukaan kaipaamansa oikean lemmikin tai keksityn hahmon. Roope Eronen on toteuttanut Kalmakummun lasten ideoiden pohjalta.
Tämä on ensimmäinen Kalmakumpu-sarjakuva. Lukijoilla on mahdollisuus ehdottaa omia hahmoja tuleviin tarinoihin. Tervetuloa mukaan luomaan sarjakuvaa!

Suomen kuvataide elää alkavaa kultakauttaan 1800-luvun lopulla.
Nyt myös naistaiteilijat etsivät paikkaansa miesten hallitsemassa taidemaailmassa.
Nuori Helene Schjerfbeck matkustaa Pariisiin, kuten kaikki muutkin aikaansa seuraavat taiteilijat. Hänen ystävänsä Helena Westermarck, Maria Wiik ja Ada Thilén opiskelevat jo kaupungissa ja Helene on innokas liittymään joukkoon.
Naistaiteilijat muodostavat oman yhteisönsä ja kutsuvat toisiaan maalarisiskoiksi.
He maalaavat ahkerasti, ovat kunnianhimoisia ja saavat vaikutteita vallalla olevista uusista suuntauksista. Kotimaassa tätä kaikkea ei arvosteta ja kritiikki on pahimmillaan murskaavaa. Maalarisiskot kertoo neljän merkittävän taiteilijanaisen ystävyydestä, opinnoista, matkustamisesta, rakkaudesta ja unelmien tavoittelusta.

Reetta Niemensivu on Parkanossa syntynyt ja Lahdessa vaikuttava sarjakuvataiteilija ja kuvittaja.
Suuri Kurpitsa on julkaissut hänen teoksensa Lempi ja rakkaus (2010), Aavepianisti (2011) ja Saniainen kukkii juhannuksena (2013) sekä kuusi Pauli Kallion käsikirjoittamaa Lyhenevä kesä -kokoelmaa. Niemensivun tekeillä oleva sarjakuvakirja käsittelee suomalaista mytologiaa.

Kahdeksanvuotias Anni asuu äitinsä kanssa kaukana isovanhemmistaan, mutta lomilla he käyvät mummolassa aina, kun se on mahdollista.
Ukin ja mummin kanssa on hauska retkeillä ja käydä uimassa. Huvittavia juttuja kertova enokin asuu lähellä – ja osaa korjata mitä vaan. Anni saa usein seuraa myös naapurin lapsista. Nyt Anni on oppinut luistelemaan, mutta mummo ei tulekaan mukaan järven jäälle. Mikähän mummoa oikein vaivaa?
Pentti Otsamo ja Anja Rissanen — kolmea lastaan Pohjois-Savon maisemissa kasvattanut graafikkopariskunta — suunnittelivat yhteisen lastenkirjan tekemistä jo opiskeluaikanaan.
Miks just nyt? sai alkunsa yli 30 vuotta myöhemmin Pentiltä Kuopion yliopistolliseen sairaalaan tilatuista potilashuoneiden seinäkuvituksista.
Kirjan piirrokset ovat Puupäähatulla palkitun Pentin käsialaa, tarinan ja kuvien suunnittelu tekijöiden yhteistyötä.

Juokseminen on enemmän kuin liikuntaa.
Se on aikaa ajatuksille, yllätyksiä jokaisen kukkulan ja tienmutkan takana. Se on pieni seikkailu lähialueilla, jotka luulee tuntevansa, mutta jotka usein ovat täysin vieraita. Tutkimusmatka paikkoihin joissa ei ole aiemmin ollut syytä käydä.
Hitaan juoksijan kirja on erilainen kirja juoksemisesta. Siinä ei kilpailla eikä voiteta mestaruuksia. Siinä juostaan hitaasti, ympäristöä tutkaillen, kaupunkirakennetta ja kapitalismin syntejä pohdiskellen. Siinä ei liikuta eksoottisissa paikoissa, vaan juostaan Turussa.
Tutuiksi tulevat Raisionjoen pastoraaliset peltomaisemat, Pansion ja Pernon ongelmalähiöt, Kärsämäen vanha teollisuusalue, Hirvensalon ökyomakotitalot ja lopuksi Herttuankulma, jonka tiiviisti rakennettu kerrostalomuuri herättää juoksijassa apokalyptisiä ajatuksia.

Johanna Vehkoo & Emmi Nieminen: Syntymän ja kuoleman kirja (ENNAKKOTILAUS)

Syntymän ja kuoleman kirja käsittelee sitä, millaista on tulla vanhemmaksi välittömästi sen jälkeen, kun on menettänyt oman vanhempansa.
Se kertoo menetyksestä ja surusta, ilosta ja rakkaudesta, lapsen saamisen ihmeellisyydestä, vanhemmaksi kasvamisesta, isän ja tyttären suhteesta ja suurten ikäluokkien yhteiskunnallisesta painolastista.
Yksi kirjan merkittävä teema on synnytyspelko, joka on ani harvoin kirjallisuudessa, sarjakuvassa ja ylipäätään taiteessa nähty aihe. Kertoja tulee äidiksi vasta nelikymppisenä, koska on lykännyt lapsentekoa lamaannuttavan synnytyspelon vuoksi.
Hänen isänsä sairastuu parantumattomaan syöpään raskauden viimeisellä kolmanneksella ja hänen tilansa heikkenee nopeasti. Alkoholismin takia isä on fyysisesti niin huonossa kunnossa, ettei hänelle voi antaa syöpähoitoja. Isä kuolee kaksi viikkoa ennen hartaasti odottamansa ensimmäisen lapsenlapsensa syntymää.
Emmi Nieminen on tamperelainen sarjakuvataiteilija ja kuvittaja.
Johanna Vehkoo on Helsingissä asuva toimittaja ja kirjailija.
Syntymän ja kuoleman kirja on Vehkoon kuudes teos, mutta ensimmäinen kaunokirjallinen työ. Kirjan tarina perustuu käsikirjoittajan omiin kokemuksiin, mutta se on etäännytetty tosielämän henkilöistä.
Nieminen ja Vehkoo ovat aiemmin tehneet työparina verkkovihasta kertovan kirjan Vihan ja inhon internet (Kosmos, 2017). Se oli Suomen ensimmäinen kirjana julkaistu journalistinen sarjakuva, ja se palkittiin Nuori Voima -palkinnolla.
Vihan ja inhon internet ilmestyi vuonna 2019 ranskaksi nimellä L’Internet de la Haine.
Timo Mäkelä: Eugen ja Sigrid (ENNAKKOTILAUS)
ENNAKKOTILAUS.

Schaumanin sisarukset syntyivät 1870-luvulla.
Kaksi vuotta Sigridiä vanhempi Eugen päätyi kansallismarttyyriksi ammuttuaan 1904 Suomen kenraalikuvernööri Bobrikovin ja sen jälkeen itsensä.
Kuvataiteilijana ja kriitikkona uran tehnyt Sigrid eli 101-vuotiaaksi ja osallistui vielä vuonna 1978 Amos Andersonin taidemuseossa järjestetyn satavuotisnäyttelynsä avajaisiin. Hän nousi yhdeksi kansallistaiteilijoistamme, vaikka maalasi mieluummin Ranskassa eikä ollut erityisen innostunut suomalaisesta maisemasta.
Sarjakuvan tapahtumat nähdään Sigridin silmin. Hän seuraa sydän syrjällään, kuinka veli tavoittelee rakkautta ja tarkoitusta elämälleen. Sisarusten vahva yhteys säilyi Eugenin kuolemaan asti. Senkin jälkeen isänmaan suuren pojan varjo seurasi Sigridiä.
Timo Mäkelä on 74-vuotias sarjakuvapiirtäjä, joka on julkaissut parikymmentä sarjakuvakirjaa.
Moni niistä sijoittuu 1900-luvun alun Helsinkiin. Mäkelän Minun elämäni ilmestyi 2000-luvun alussa Helsingin Sanomien sunnuntaisarjana. Samassa lehdessä ilmestyivät myös Kalliokadun blues ja Merja Heikkisen kanssa tehty Pieniä julmia tarinoita.
Mäkelä sai Puupää-hatun vuonna 1989 ja Valtion taidepalkinnon 2001.

Mari Ahokoivu: Avaruudessa kuolemisen haasteita (ENNAKKOTILAUS)

Suomen sarjakuvaseura myönsi Ahokoivulle Puupäähattu-palkinnon vuonna 2023. Ahokoivu asuu Kööpenhaminassa ja työskentelee Kulkælderen työhuonekollektiivissa.

Koska lähes jokaisen sarjakuvan ystävän toinen nuoruuden rakkaus on ollut rock, koska Juice, Hector, Peitsamo, Ne Luumäet sytyttävät pilkkeen silmäkulmaan, koska aina ei viitsi kirjoittaa viisaita, niin me päätimme panna comixit ja rockin samoihin kansiin. Tuloksena syntyi tuhti paketti nimeltä Rock-Kyttyrä.
Mukana on rocksarjakuvaa kuten Burnsiä, Emersonia, Koskelaa, Juntusta ja paljon uusia nuoria lahjakkuuksia. Lokeron nimeltä ‘rocksarjakuva’ voi tosin huoleti jättää omaan arvoonsa. Lukijan vaisto sanoo missä ruuduissa kulkee tai potkii, ei sähkökitarat ja Jim Morrison -tekstit tee kuvituksesta rock’n’comixia.
